When you thought that the banking sector couldn’t get any worse it just did. Now two more banks located in California and Texas turned in their cards and couldn’t hold on any longer. Franklin Bank, a Houston, Texas-based bank and Security Pacific Bank, a Los Angeles, California-based bank were shut down by state regulators Friday. This is actually no suprise however. Bank everywhere continue to take a hit with the mortgage crisis.

Franklin Bank had a total in assets of $5.1 billion dollars. and a total deposits of $3.7 billion as of Sept. 30, 2008. The founder of Franklin bank, Lewis Ranieri is actually one of the people that is acredited with the implementation of mortgage-backed securities.

Franklin Bank Corp. as of Sunday said it had received proposals for transactions that would be able to strengthen Franklin Bank’s capital position and was keeping regulators informed of the talks’ progress, according to the Associated Press.

So where do people that banked with Franklin go now? Fortunatley the stronger banks always win out in situations like this, and evn purchase the failed banks. Prosperity Bank,  based in El Campo, Texas, will begin to assume all of the deposits of the failed Franklin bank. For thiose banking with Franklin this means very little change.
